The 2019 Riterza from Cantine Calcagno is a distinctive and compelling expression of Carricante that showcases the unique character of Sicily’s volcanic terrain. Unlike conventional Etna Bianco, Riterza is a bianco macerato—a white wine made with extended skin contact and spontaneous fermentation on native yeasts. This artisanal approach naturally accentuates texture, aromatic depth, and minerality, translating the ancient volcanic soils and high‑altitude vineyards into a richly layered wine that’s intriguing and vibrant.

Tasting Notes:

Colour: Deep golden straw with luminous hues.

Aromas: Intense aromatics of orchard fruit, quince, and apricot are joined by touches of beeswax, chamomile, wild fennel, and saline minerality—all hallmarks of macerated Carricante. 

Palate: Medium‑bodied with a lively structure and refreshing acidity. The extended skin contact brings intriguing texture and complexity, with flavours of citrus peel, stone fruit, and a savoury mineral core that lead into a long, persistent finish.
